Breast Uplift Surgery: What the Procedure Involves and Typical Costs

A breast uplift is one of those operations people search for years before they book. The breasts still have volume, but they sit lower than they used to. Bras ride up. The nipple points down. It is also not automatically a breast reduction. Reduction removes a meaningful amount of gland and fat to make the breast smaller and lighter. Why breasts sit lower, and when surgery is the honest answer 

Sagging is not a failure of posture or a poorly chosen bra. Skin stretches. Ligaments inside the breast (Cooper’s ligaments) lengthen. After pregnancy the gland can shrink while the skin envelope stays large, which leaves a deflated, lower breast. Weight loss does the same. Ageing does it slowly for almost everyone. 

Non-surgical options; tape, “lifting” bras, radiofrequency, threads; can change how clothes sit for an evening. They do not permanently shorten the skin envelope or move the nipple. When the nipple sits at or below the crease under the breast, a mastopexy is usually the procedure that matches the anatomy. 

Good candidates for breast uplift Southampton surgery are typically in stable health, at a weight that is not bouncing up and down and not planning pregnancy in the immediate future. What the procedure involves

Marking. You are marked standing up. Gravity is what the operation is fighting; markings made lying down are not useful. 

Anaesthetic and time. General anaesthetic. Typical operating time is around one and a half to two hours. No drains are used which is standard. Sutures are dissolvable, so there is no routine stitch-removal but a wound check at one week.. 

Incisions. The pattern depends on how much lift is needed: 

• Circumareolar (around the areola) for a small adjustment 

• Vertical or “lollipop” (around the areola and down to the crease) for moderate ptosis 

• Anchor / inverted-T (areola, vertical limb and a crease incision) when more skin must be removed 

The nipple stays attached to a pedicle of tissue so it keeps its blood supply. It is moved up, the areola is often reduced if it has stretched, excess skin is excised, and the remaining breast is reshaped so it sits higher on the chest.

Recovery: what the first weeks actually feel like 

Most patients go home the same day. Expect tightness, swelling and a “high and tight” appearance at first. That settles.

• Driving: when you can use the belts and react comfortably, often after the first week if pain is controlled
